The G7 summit held in Cornwall from 11-13 June 2021 was an important moment for the current liberal order, which is in the great quest.

That sentence, which takes part in the communique could be read as a statement that the system has entered a crisis:

“The G7 must restore public confidence in a rules-based, free, fair, and open economic system”

In the continuation of the communique, it is emphasized that “the new consensus to be achieved will make the said flank resistance to geopolitical risks”. This sentence can also be seen as an important sign of the changing geopolitics and the "global order" that is slipping from their hands.

The new approach, defined as geopolitical resistance, probably refers to measures to be taken against China's global rise.

Another important decision that came out of the summit was the announcement of an alternative plan to China's Belt and Road Initiative.

There is no clear roadmap yet according to the plan launched as “Build Back Better World” or “B3W”. Angela Merkel even said that the G7 is not yet in the stage of putting in finance for this plan.

However, given the strategic nature of Chinese investments, the main goal of the summit is: China.

After the summit in question, the Chinese side described the summit as "political manipulation" saying "days of a small group of countries dictating global decisions long gone".

Needless to say, it is possible to read the summit as the late consciousness of the US-led western flank about China.

The US, which has tried containing China with practices from the Cold War era, has not been able to correctly read China's tremendous rise in material capacity.

While China is embarking on a huge economic rise, it has sealed it with a brand project such as the Belt and Road Initiative. As the West described the project as a "debt trap" instead of offering an alternative to this project, it preferred a tit-for-tat approach with military maneuvers and zero-sum sanctions against China.

On top of that, because of this tectonic shift in the fields of ideas, material capacity (economic power + military power) and institutional capacity in the context of the elements that make up the global hegemony, China has reached a serious level economically and militarily.

Given this institutional capacity, it has an important weight in many international institutions. There are also alternative multinational organizations such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the SCO.

The competition in the field of ideas is getting sharper day by day. Biden has summed up the situation by saying "democratic and autocratic nations are in a competitive race" right after the summit.

In other words, there is a significant break in the field of ideas. The current liberal order is no longer address the needs. He is in a chronic organic crisis. This can also be described as a "global interregnum."

As Bernie Sanders determines it in his last article: “if democracy will win out, it will do so not on a traditional battlefield but by demonstrating that democracy can deliver a better quality of life for people than authoritarianism can.

Maybe that is the crucial point is right here.

When we look at the outcome of the G7 summit, it seems that perhaps for the first time, the right "front" has been chosen to challenge China.

However, this time there is not enough ammunition.

Therefore, this move of the G7 or, more briefly, the USA, consists of "keeping the partners on board," as stated in one corner of the communique, rather than putting forward an alternative plan to China.

Given that Italy, which is a member of the G7, joined the Belt and Road Initiative a few years ago (Italy recently announced that it will carefully review the initiative), this could be an important preventive move for the US.

Or an effort to create a "geopolitical resistance".

The global order is systematically transforming. US and the West are trying to take urgent measures against this transformation following a Cold War-like path.

The problem is bigger and more complex than the US winning the competition for global hegemony.

A strong global consciousness must realize the current order and values. However, the material power that can provide this is fragmented and ineffective.

However, this power is losing blood on geopolitical terms with each passing day.

Although Biden's sentence "US is back" will encourage the said power to revive a bit, it seems a little too late for this.
